Sun’s out, barbie’s out: BBQ party ideas for 2019
What do you do when the sun comes out? Instantly call the girls and arrange to hit the chicest beer garden you can find of course.
Snapping up a decent table with an Instagram-worthy backdrop is another story though. If you’re lucky enough to have a garden, why not be the heroine of your friendship group and host a barbie?
Check out our BBQ party ideas and your do will be the talk of the Whatsapp group.
Set up a mini cocktail bar
Stay with us, it’s easier than you think to impress with cocktails – just stick with one, simple recipe that everyone likes. For us, that’s Love on the Beach,
Three parts orange juice, three parts cranberry juice and one part each of vodka and peach schnapps. Dash of lemon juice optional.
Moisten your glass rims with water and twist into a bowl of sugar for a professional edge, then chill in the fridge before serving, with a maraschino cherry in each glass. Et voilà!
A pitcher of orange and cranberry will make the kids feel involved and very grownup – serve in plastic glasses with these cute watermelon straws and don’t confuse your serving jugs!
Feel free to be a Phoebe, not a Monica
If you’ve got a fancy wooden table with a bunch of matching chairs just made for the garden, lucky you! If not (let’s be honest, we’re in the UK), why not go for “the more eclectic the better” as your theme?
Think mismatched chairs with cushions, throws and picnic blankets scattered around, and kooky table accessories. Battery powered string lights will look gorge as it starts to go dark, too. Mood lighting is always key.
Side note:no one wants to see you
Monica-flinching every time you put down their glass, so plastic cups and plates with a fun print are an absolute must.
Throws and blankets will go down well with kids as well as guests when it gets chilly later in the day and if you’re the kind of social butterfly who regularly entertains, you can never have too many. Pick up this flamingo design for tropical-inspired style.
Go unique with your menu
Sure, the classic barbie snacks are always welcome, but casually chucking in a unique recipe or two will make sure tongues are wagging about your unreal cooking skills.
For veggies and cheese fiends (so everyone), halloumi and veg skewers are so simple to make, but they’ll show up the hot dogs and burgers and give you an uber-sophisticated edge.
You’ll just need halloumi (obviously), peppers, courgette and mini tomatoes, plus your fave marinade. We love lemon, mint and garlic but do your research first!
Keep the table well-stocked with cold meats, fresh salad and bread with olive oil and balsamic to really show you’re the hostess with the mostess. We just LOVE grazing.
