We’ve barely allowed ourselves to even think this but – touch wood – it seems to have been quite sunny over the past week or so. Like our heavy parkas, we have instantly shrugged off our gloomy moods and we can embrace our excitement for spring/ summer!
Ok so perhaps throwing away our coats – or ritualistically destroying them while crying with happiness – might be a little premature but we can definitely start introducing new-season items into our wardrobes. When you’re not an A-Lister (you are to us, guys) it can be a bit of a fashion dilemma to transition between seasons and trends as you can’t snap everything up in one shopping trip – but that’s what we’re here for!
To make things simple, we’ve made a list of the key Fantastic Trends and Where to Find Them (a film we’d definitely watch) and most importantly, HOW to wear them. Read on for our pearls of wisdom (hint: pearls aren’t in the list).
Period Drama Chic
We’re talking about the romantic ruffles and frills you’ve been seeing everywhere – from shoes and skirts to tops and dresses. The best way to describe it is either Period Drama Chic or Contemporary Disney Princess; replacing the billowing ball gowns with modern shapes and contrasting, figure-hugging materials to give your bod some definition. Also, we’d limit your ruffles to one piece per outfit, in order to avoid looking like a soufflé.
This look is super-feminine (you’re basically Snow White in 2017) which you can either embrace with brights, pastels and florals…
Or opt for Buffy the Vampire Slayer-esque femininity with a kick-ass edge…
Remember all the old rules about wearing stripes? Stripes going around will always add pounds! Well we all realised that the vertical-not-horizontal rule is a load of old tosh years ago, but until recently, we’ve adhered to the one-pattern-per-outfit and the one-type-of-stripe laws pretty intensely. Not. Anymore!
*Screams ‘freedom!’ like Braveheart*
So, you can rock this trend any which way you like. Our favourite way to wear it is stripes plus florals – personally we’d suggest one print being coloured and one being monochrome…
Or you can throw caution to the wind as a true stripe rebel and wear two types of stripes – major style points awarded here as it’s a brave look. Keep other accessories muted so the coloured stripes can shine…
But then again, simple and minimalist looks will always bring with them a certain level of sophistication. You get our point– this will be the easiest trend to implement all season!
Sheer sex bomb
This season, outerwear is taking a clue from innerwear – namely, lingerie – and these garms ooze sex appeal. Double trend points if your sheer pieces are embroidered with intricate florals (see our how-to-wear guide here) or embellished with sequins and metallics.
Go super-sultry with this sheer dress and contrasting ruffled neckline and make sure to keep focus on the main event with subtle silver accessories.
Trends come together with this sheer combo. Cold-shoulder, check. Embroidery, check. Metallics, check. Ruffles, check. The eyes of every fashionista in the place will be on you.
It’s time to wake up your inner hillbilly – sure there’s got to be one in us somewhere? – and take on this uber-girly look. Who says gingham can’t be sophisticated?
Another versatile trend, you can either play up to the country vibes with a denim skirt and western boots…
