London Fashion Week Cheat Sheet

London Fashion Week Cheat Sheet

That time of year has come around again. The fash pack squeezed all they could from New York Fashion Week and landed in London on Thursday for five days of catwalk shows, congratulating each other for being so talented and gorgeous and generally celebbing around.

We know there are a LOT of shows to get through though and it’s not like you can pick and choose. Watch two runways and you’ve already forgotten what you’ve seen and who designed it. Or was it a collab? Where’s all the scandal? Luckily we’re back again too with our Fashion Week Cheat Sheet. Enjoy and keep on top of the trends the easy way!

Sequins were all over the place this LFW, with a rainbow of bright colours, disco shapes and feel-good inspirational slogans. When it comes to working this look go LARGE. It might be a little daunting at first but we promise, when you’re out with your pals wearing a gold sequin dress, a black sequin cape and lashings of gold eyeshadow, you’re going to feel empowered as anything.

Fashion or function? It often feels like we have to choose when it comes to autumn/ winterwear because there’s nothing more tempting than a huge, ugly cardigan on a blustery day. On London’s catwalks however, fashion has BECOME functional.

When you’re shopping this trend, look out for muted, earthy colours, roll-necks and argyle-esque knits. Above all though, your knitwear should be wonderfully outsized – hello roast dinners – and teamed with contrasting, glamorous materials. We’re talking satins, velvets and leathers aplenty.

So many runways had aspects of this nostalgic, heritage trend, from all-out tweed suits at Mulberry to strategic, modern flashes of check at Tata Naka and roll-necks, checks and long flat boots from Victoria Beckham.

If you’ve got a soft spot for this look already, imagine you’re very posh and your family owns several horses. Think checked shirts, fitted shapes, traditional tailoring and collars.

Gone are the days of wondering if your pink shoes noticeably clash with your orange jumper. It’s time to work a contrast and the brighter the better. For those feeling nervous about this trend, try a bright blue jean paired with an orange off-the-shoulder. Tangerine was BIG.

Dressmaker to Beyoncé, Rocky Star and Bollywood Actress Amy Jackson stunned audiences and Instagrammers alike after the latter posted a photo of herself wearing this nearly-naked wedding dress design. The post scored over 28k likes in around 5 hours and became the top post for the #LFW hashtag. Way to grab our attention you guys.

Our soul sister in fashion – Alexa Chung – stepped out with this effortlessly-stylish and unique-as-ever Milk Maid look. The straw handbag and soft, face-framing curls finished it perfectly.

Reserved, yet sexy monochrome florals with a Victorian collar and shoulder-detailing – Daisy Lowe was understated yet show-stealing as she often is.

Poldark’s Eleanor Tomlinson was stunning and feminine in pastel blue, romantic ruffles and a Peter Pan collar. E.T clearly doesn’t want to cast off the spring trends in favour of being ahead of the pack in AW style. After all, it isn’t even spring yet – we couldn’t agree more Eleanor.

On the other hand, Iskra Lawrence took our breath away in this tonal blue ensemble, just days after the trend aired in New York. Bravo Iskra for showcasing our favourite street style this Fashion Month.

We want to know your London Fashion Week highlights over on Facebook or Twitter today! Which trends are you deffo trying out? Are there any looks that are a definite no for you? Make sure to tell us if you’re interested in a Milan or Paris cheat sheet too – what can we say? We live to please!
