Embroidery used to be a word you associated with your Nan. Well, not anymore. We remember a million years ago (by which we mean September) when SS17 trends were coming through and we were super-excited by the prettiest, most eye-catching and most unusual of the bunch. But it didn’t seem like spring would ever come!
And it still isn’t here. But it’s deffo on its way and this is one trend that we can actually start implementing now! Embroidered clothing comes in all shapes and sizes, so you don’t have to freeze to death to get that style factor.
On the other hand, we’d suggest that you tread with caution: you’re aiming for granny chic, not granny bleak after all. That’s why we’re here to show you how to work embroidery in all the right ways! If you’re anything like us, you’re going to love, love, LOVE it. So go forth and let the trends be ever in your favour – no matter the occasion.
When you’re ‘relazing’ (relaxing, or just being lazy)
Some ladies just have their chilled weekend look down to a T, don’t they? You will too with a combo of dark khaki, beading and black embroidery. Slightly gothic, cool and comfy – this off-duty sweater will liven up your jeggings and slip-ons any day. We love the contrast of baby blue against green and these dusky pink, knot detail shoes will become your feet’s new bezzies.
“Work, work, work, work, work, work”
We’re not entirely sure what Rihanna’s song is about and we know she doesn’t work in an office like most of us, but we’re confident she’d always be on-trend and fabulous if she did. Give next Monday a little something extra and make a statement with this beautiful cotton shirt. Pair it with a sharp pencil skirt and a simple court shoe to keep your look minimalist, yet smart and sophisticated all the while.
When you’re wining and dining
The trusty black skinny jean just got even better! This sweet pair will still go with almost all of the same outfits as your regular ones – be wary of the double floral – but with a retro country and western feel. For the awkward winter/ spring transition though, we’d go for a pastel lace cold-shoulder top, a waterfall duster jacket for some super-chic warmth and these peep toe sling backs to complete your transition into the next Shania Twain. ’90s, we’ve missed you.
Honestly, probably our favourite way to wear the trend – accessories can be so BORING! Embroidered floral detailing can breathe life into a perfectly pretty – but perhaps slightly plain – shoe, hat or rucksack.
Add an interest point to a monochrome outfit with an understated embroidered loafer or a delicate embroidered choker. Opt for a feminine western look with double denim and a floral boot, or head for a chilled day out in on-trend satin.
